Lancet

Sort By :
  • Lancets, also known as gauges, are thin metal strips used in face-to-face carpet weaving looms to maintain a constant pile height during the weaving process. Before their introduction in face-to-face looms, lancets were originally used in loop-pile looms for weaving Brussels carpets.
  • In loop-pile weaving, pile loops are formed over a dummy weft that rests on the lancet. The dummy weft is usually removed after weaving, ensuring uniform loop height and texture. This innovative technique of loop-pile weaving was first developed by Müllers & Spindler of Dülken, Germany, in 1894, where a binding warp thread was used to support the dummy wefts in place of a lancet.
  • Today, lancets remain a vital component in modern carpet looms, ensuring precision, consistency, and superior carpet surface quality.
